1 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin – Single Mine 2022
The 1 oz Gold Maple Leaf Single Mine 2022 is the Royal Canadian Mint’s first fully segregated single-mine gold bullion coin. All of its gold comes from one source – the Meliadine mine in Nunavut Territory, Canada, operated by Agnico Eagle. The gold is refined and struck by the Mint under strict segregation protocols, so every coin can be traced from the mine to your hands.
What Makes It Different from the Standard Maple Leaf
- Gold from a single mine: 100% of the gold comes from the Meliadine mine. Standard Maple Leafs are struck from gold of mixed origin.
- Mine-to-mint traceability: Refined separately at the Royal Canadian Mint’s LBMA Good Delivery refinery, without mixing with gold from other sources.
- Special privy mark: A hand cradling a globe on the reverse, symbolising the single-source origin.
- Assay card: Sealed in a credit-card-style assay card with a certificate of fineness and weight signed by the Mint’s Chief Assayer.
- Fixed year: Every coin is dated 2022 – no random-year mix.

Design Details
Obverse
The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, with the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II”, “50 DOLLARS” and the year “2022”.
Reverse
The reverse shows Walter Ott’s sugar maple leaf, surrounded by precisely machined radial lines. The inscriptions read “CANADA”, “9999” and “FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR”. Next to the stem of the leaf is the hand-and-globe privy mark that sets this issue apart from the standard Maple Leaf.
Security Features
- Radial lines: Precisely machined lines that create a distinctive light-diffracting pattern.
- Micro-engraved security mark: A small maple leaf with the number “22” (year of issue), visible under magnification.
- Bullion DNA™: The Royal Canadian Mint’s anti-counterfeiting technology.
Assay Card and Certificate
Each coin is encapsulated in a credit-card-format assay card. The card certifies 9999 fine gold and a weight of 1 oz (31.11 g), carries the signature of the Mint’s Chief Assayer, Charles Daoust, and states the origin of the gold: “Gold from a single mine – Meliadine, Nunavut Territory”. We recommend keeping the coin sealed in its original card – this preserves the certificate and supports the coin’s resale value.
